Updating Course – Bologna, October 10th, 2015

“Operative procedures: modern clinic”  Speakers: Paolo Ferrari, Marco Veneziani

The recent evolution of aesthetic adhesives materials has significantly changed the approach of restorative posterior and anterior dentistry. The composites and modern enamel-dentin adhesives are now increasingly able to ensure, if used properly, good results in the long term. In the posterior area , the major advantages of adhesive restorations are the aesthetics, the maximum preservation of healthy tissue and the possibility of reinforcing the remaining tooth structure. While you can perform large restorations with direct technique, the main problem of composite materials, polymerization shrinkage, has not been yet completely resolved. Then in the presence of large cavities with cuspal coverage, with possible cervical enamel reduced or absent,  adhesively cemented  restorations both composite and ceramic (lithium dissilicate) are indicated. Different types of indirect conventional restorations will be analysed , as well as newly developed ones, defining a new line between conservative and prosthetic treatment. In the anterior area, the esthetic adhesive restorations, with both direct and indirect techniques, present particular difficulties in diagnostic and operative phases. A full knowledge is nowadays essential to meet the patients increasing desire for aesthetic. We will analyze the indications, the design of the cavity and layering “anatomical” techniques, finishing and polishing of composites with predictable, accurate and not fanciful direct techniques. Finally we will define the indications and procedures for indirect restorations (Ceramic laminate veneers). To optimize the aesthetic design we can  today take advantage of a pre-digital display (Digital Smile Design), which provides useful information to the waxing and subsequent pre-clinical display through mock-up. Then follows a tissue reduction guided by final volumes and then production of the restorations and adhesive cementation. During the course and for each type of restoration, the problems inherent in clinical procedures of cavity preparation, manipulation and layering of materials, cementation of indirect restorations, finishing, polishing and maintenance will be confronted. The videos will increase the value of the course. The ultimate goal will be to provide all participants a rigorous methodical, properly encoded, repeatable and predictable in the results with immediate feedback, immediately applicable in your daily routine.
